OUR INSTRUCTORS

Our team of friendly instructors offer decades of experience and a direct lineage to the foundations of Goju Kai karate.

Steve Colangelo Shihan

7th Dan Renshi

Steve Shihan commenced training with the Goju Kai organisation in Victoria as a young teenager in 1967, and was one of the original students of Tino Ceberano Shihan. His career spans over 48 years and was the first Victorian to win the AKF ‘all styles’ OPEN Kumite championships. He went on to win many karate tournaments in kumite as an individual and as a team member at state, national and international level.

Steve Shihan was fortunate to be graded to 1st and 2nd Dan in Australia, and 4th Dan in Japan by the legendary founder of Goju Kai Karate in Japan, the late Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi. On 12th June 2016, Steve Shihan was promoted to 7th Dan by Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi, son of Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi and President of the International Karatedo Gojukai Association (IKGA), who attended the Australian 50th Anniversary Celebration (1966-2016) 3-day Seminar, held at our Victorian Country Division Headquarters in Albury, NSW.
